It has proved successful after launching "Three Less, Three More" scheme for almost a year as the numbers of the applicants for unemployment benefit have decreased and the employment rate increased twice. According to the latest MOL meeting on 20 November 2009, Mr. Phaithoon Kaeothong, Minister of Labour, received the report regarding the current employment figure presented by the Department of Employment. It has shown that the unemployment rate on September 2009 was at 1.2% and it was expected that the rate for November 2009 will be at 1.1%. Regarding the numbers of applicants for unemployment benefit, it has found that there are 47,836 people registered in the list on September 2009 which was 348 people little bit less than the figure in October. Since the economic crisis in October 2008, the numbers of people registered for the unemployment benefit were continually decreased after the highest jump which was 101,939 people in February 2009 until reaching the current figure at 47,836 people accordingly. Moreover, the employment data has shown a positive sign. In only 10 months since January until October 2009, it has found that 280,131 people got the new jobs that was breaking the record of the whole year 2007 (120,920 people) and year 2008 (148,169 people). Besides, in the average of the year 2009, it is found that the ratio of people who registered to the authority and get employed is 49.81%. Mr. Phaithoon also planed to implement the program to persuade the unemployed people, who are using the unemployment benefits which were extended from 6 to 8 months, to be quickly employed to maintain the level of the unemployment fund. However, one of the reasons that some of the unemployed was not registered into the social security system due to the fact that they are currently working as freelance which is resulted from the "Three Less, Three More" scheme especially the increasing of business opportunities which have been done continuously since the labour crisis has begun. |
