On 25 November 2009, Mr.Somchai Choomrat, MOL Permanent Secretary, gave an interview, after the cabinet declared the Internal Security Act in the Kingdom B.E.2552 between 28 November – 14 December in Bangkok area which might affect the Body Fashion (Thailand) Company Limited former employees’ rally inside the MOL, that it might not affect the labour rally since it was the labour rights to appeal the unfair lay-off and it is considered as a non-political movement except that the demonstrators intended to do something which affect the national security or any political institution. Even though Body Fashion’s demonstrators never had those intentions, the security measure would be tightened to closely monitor at all time by leaving the visitors’ ID card to the MOL security guard to keep the record. MOL Permanent Secretary further stated that the demonstration of Body Fashion’s laid off workers had happened before the cabinet announcement, and from the closely monitoring they were generally considered to have no effect on the national security, but might affect the convenience of the people who came to the ministry and the MOL officers who work inside. Nevertheless, he believed that everyone would understand the protestors since the MOL is acting as the shelter for anyone who suffered from the labour-related issues. |
