Assistant Minister of Labour of MOL went to pick up the body of Thai workers who died suddenly and unexpectedly from South Korea at Suwannabhomi International Airport at 2.00 pm. Mr. Yuph Nana Assistant Minister of Labour revealed that the mentioned Thai was Mr. Somphob Suansanay, 27 years of age, resided at 85 Moo 10, Paiyai District, Muangsamsib, Ubonratchatani Province, son of Mr. Sampan and Mrs. Sakorn Suansanay. He went to work in South Korea in a position of manufacturer of metal products since August 8th 2007. His employer was KIM YONG LUL, resided at 354-19 GEUMCHOM SEOUL in South Korea. Lately, he came back to Thailand for vacations and secondly returned to work in South Korea on 15 July 2009 in a position of general worker with the same employer. He earned 852,020 KRW or equivalent to 24,700 baht/month. Mr. Somphob worked in South Korea for entirely 3 years and 4 months until he unexpectedly died on 16 December 2009. His body will be returned to Thailand by Thai Airways, flight no. TG 659, arrived at Suwannabhumi at 2.00pm. Mrs. Sakorn Suksang, and his relatives would came to pick up his body to perform religious practices at his residence and to arrange funeral ceremony at Kingtong Temple, located at Moo 10, Paiyai District, Muangsamsib, Ubonratchatani Province. Mr. Yuph Nana further addressed that Thai worker who died in South Korea would be entitled to the benefits amounted to 284,000 baht in total which could be divided into subvention for his heirs for funeral expenses granted from Aid Fund for Oversea Workers for 40,000 baht, subvention for 40,000 baht in case of dead in oversea countries, subvention from South Korea 145,000 baht, and oversea insurance payment for 58,000 baht. “Minister of Labour” expressed his concerns and urged Thai workers who have been working in oversea countries, by themselves or by employer, to recognize the importance of benefits entitlement while living broad including medical fees for sickness and accidents and benefits in case of disability and death in which Thai worker shall be entitled to funeral expenses, allowance for heirs and attorney fee for litigation. He, therefore, would like to encourage Thai workers to register aid fund for job seekers with Department of Employment prior to traveling which costs only 300-500 baht/times depends on destination country as specified by Department of Employment The member shall be granted protection according to the period of employment contract plus additional 5 years.
