 Department of Labour Protection and Welfare is gratified for reduction of occupational accident rate at 14% from last year.

 

                Department of Labour Protection and Welfare discloses working accidents during 9 months from Jauary-September 2008 in comparison with 2009 that the accidental rate is reduced by 14% and also notify the workplace about the penalty of violating the obligations of occupational safety law that might be impression and fined.
                 Mrs. Umporn Nitisiri, Director General to the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare revealed tht according to the record of compensation fund to Social Security Office from January-December 2008, it appears that there were totally 176,502 employees injured from working which could be clarified by the category of serious injury as follows; there were 613 deaths, 15 disabilities, lost some organs for 3,096 people , leave over 3 days for 45,719 people and leaves less than 3 days for 127,059 people.
                Mrs. Umporn further addressed that during 9 months of 2009 from January-September, the department could achieve concreted implementation on occupational safety management in which it could reduce accidents occurring from working calculated from 1,000 employee in comparison with last year during January-September 2008, the accidents reduced fro 4.59 to 3.93% (calculated from 1,000 employee) reducing by 14.37% In particular, the rate of death due to working has been reduced from 5.59% to 5.48% which was equivalent to 1.97% of reduction per 100,000 employees. In this regard, the department emphasizes on monitoring and preventing the accidents occurring to the employees and enforces workplaces to strictly abide by the regulations. In case of serious accident causing death or disability, it shall be execution immediately. Last years, the department sanctioned totally 88 employers who violated or non-comply with Occupational Safety, Health and Working Environment Law divided into centrals authorities for 8 cases and regional authorities for 80 cases in which the highest cases were construction-related and second-highest was machine-related cases.
              However, regarding the penalty, in case of violation, the workplace shall be executed by imprisoned not more than 1 year or being fined not more than 200,000 baht or both
