Minister of Labour accelerates to prove alien labour's nationality of foreign workers

         Minister of Labour accelerates to call comprehensions to the world society that Thailand legally employs foreign workers Thai workers, also accelerates to urge Thai workers to emphasizes on proving nationality so as to receive equal protection with Thai workers. The cabinet’s resolution on 3 November 2009 approved the extension of work permit registration and extension of foreign workers ‘child to be able to temporary stay in Thailand.
        Mr. Phaithoon Kaeothong, Minister of Labour, addressed that to systematize foreign workers for national stability and in accordance with the real labour market demand was regarded as national agenda in which all sector shall confederate each other. According to cabinet’s resolution on extension of Period for of foreign workers who have not taken a photo, checked up heath and registered work permit for totally 151,982 people. Regarding registration of work permit, MOL has issued 90 days extension of work permit (from 4 Nov 2009- 1 Feb 2010) and approved for the registration of foreign workers’ child to temporary stay in Thailand. 
        In this regard, today’s MOL meeting (20 November 2009), Mr.Phaithoon has accelerated to verify nationality, especially Myanmar workers. He enquired about the progress from relevant authorities and found that there were almost 40,000 nationality verification forms in which Myanmar government shall examined before resend to all 3 Thai-Myanmar Border Centers were certified by Myanmar government, therefore, he precipitated to closely coordinate with Myanmar government in order to facilitate nationality verification process. He asks for cooperation to publicly inform by words of mouth about Myanmar’s good cooperation over nationality verification. Also, he is ready to verify Myanmar workers regardless of parentage excluding Rohingya and anti-Myanmar government. The advantage of proving nationality is getting equal protection as Thai workers. He, therefore, assigned SSO to study a protection system “buying insurance” covering to compensation for sickness, disability and death.
         However, Myanmar workers who were verified their nationality will get allowance to work in Thailand twice a year totally 4 year and will be issued 3 years valid temporary passport. At present, there are 3 Nationality Proving Centers namely Muang, Ranong Province, Maesod, Tak Province, and Maesai, Cheingrai Province.
