  Voices from Thai workers in Brunei appreciated the free health examination of Thai government

                During 20-25 March 2008, Ministry of Labour through Labour Office in Brunei joined the Thai Embassy at Banda Sere Begawan city, Ministry of Public Health in bringing doctors, nurses and physiologist travel to Brunei and deliver medical services to Thai workers.  The team was led by Mr. Songsak Tantayotin, Inspector General.  The medical services were delivered at the Thai Embassy, enterprises and Thai communities that have more than 600 workers.
             Mrs. Nimnual Thongmai,
from Pitsanulok province, 51 year olds said that she works as dress maker.  When she was 36 year olds she used to work as dress maker at the Armidio Factory.  4 year ago, she was back to work and decided to work in Brunei because it is a quiet place, cost of living is not too high and earn salary of 700-800 US Dollars with welfare on accommodation, food and others.  Working in Brunei you must learn how to live with other people, knowing English and Malaysian, have to bear in mind that we are living in other people country we have to be careful than working in Thailand.  She also said that she will stay in Brunei for the time being since Brunei people respected her.  Mrs. Nimnual also said that she would like to thank Ministry of Labour in taking care of Thai workers since medical expenses in Brunei are very expensive.
             Mr. Virat Chantachart from Udornthani province said that “I work in Brunei for more than 6 years.  At present, I have salary of 800 US Dollars or 17,600 Baht.  He works as supervisor tacking care of Thai workers at the construction site camp of Tansunle Company, Banda Seree Begawan city.  I would like to thank Ministry of Labour for its concern on Thai worker health and brought medical team to deliver services and would like this kind of activity to be organized every year.”
               Mr. Sorn Skujoi works as driver at Sawee Company for more than 10 years, receiving salary of 12,000 Baht per month, and stay at the worker camp.  He said that “I cook my own food with the daily expenses of 80-100 Baht, sending 6,000 Baht remittance back home every month.  He also said that his work contract will be expired in the next 6 months.  After return home he will work as farmer growing vegetables.  He also missed home very much.  He was gladed to see Ministry of Labour officers brought medical doctors from Ministry of Public Health to treat the poor Thai workers in Brunei.  It was very good and no other countries have this kind of activity.”
 Mr. Pramul Chunrum foreman from Burirum province, at present he works at the Construction Company with salary of 20,000 Baht per month.  He said that “I can earn money for building my house and sending 3 kids to school.  My wife is also stayed with me here.  I think I will renew my contract.  For today, the medical treatment at the Thai Embassy was good services for Thai workers.”
               Mr. Sakda Bui-ngun general staff from Jardee Freedom Textile Company has been working in Brunei since 1997 or more than 10 years.  His wife is also working here as well. He said that living in Brunei, even though receive less money but accommodation, welfare, food, water and electrical expenses are provided, including don’t have to pay social taxes.  As a result, he can save more money than working in Thailand.  He also said that “He used to work in military office as chef who has to cook for Thai workers with consideration on healthy menu and served the need of fellows.  Working in Brunei I can save money since there is no places to spend money, living here have to have higher discipline and more responsibility than working in Thailand.  However, I was very appreciated on Thai government through Ministry of Labour in sending medical doctor team to treat Thai workers.  All my foreign friends are admired Thai government in doing this.  I also would like to request Minister of Labour, if possible please send medical doctors to treat Thai workers at least once a year.”
                  Miss Varunee Soisung-ngen from Nakornrajsime province said that “I finished my massage course form Pratumthani Skill Development Center and working in Brunei about a year and a half.  The work contract is for 2 years with salary of 900 Dollars per month or 20,000 Baht.  He is satisfied with the welfare provided, such as, free accommodation, food electricity, water supply, and no social taxes which difference form Thailand.  So he can save more money than working in Thailand.”  Lastly, he also said that “he appreciated the Ministry of Labour medical treatment for Thai workers in Brunei and would like to have it every year.
