  SSO joins Bureau of National Health Security organizes project on the Office joins forces to reduce weight and prevent diseases in the workplace

                Social Security Office has signed an Agreement to implement project on Social Security Office joins forces to reduce weight and prevent diseases in the workplace with Bureau of National Health Security for good health of insured persons.
             Mr. Surin Jiravisit, Secretary General, SSO,
said that obesity or overweight of person is a major health problem that increasingly find in Thailand.  From the nutritional survey of Health System Research Institute, it was found that obesity mostly occurred to working people age between 30-60 year olds.  The increasing of people age usually follows with the overweight.  People who have obesity or overweight normally will have high risk of other health issues, such as, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes, including the impacts on mind, society and high expenses on medical treatment.
                 From the 2007 chronic diseases patient information, there were insured persons who have chronic diseases and received treatment in the hospitals, the number one disease was high blood pressure with 199,223 persons; the second was diabetes with 82,163 persons; the third was high cholesterol with 61,799 persons.  The Office realizes the important of health promotion to insured persons through weight controlling to reduce health risk.  As a result, the Agreement on this project has been signed with Bureau of National Health Security.  The project objectives are providing knowledge on nutrition, exercising, and adjusting behavior which will results in reducing risk, insured persons who have chronic diseases can take care themselves, support the hospital to initiate new forms of treatment, and reduce treatment expenses in order to have better quality of lives.
                The activities of the said project are organizing workshop on health promotion, providing knowledge to enterprises, organizing insured person contest, enterprise contest and hospital contest.  If any enterprises or hospitals are interested to participate in the project, please contact for more information at Medical Coordination and Rehabilitation Division, ph: 02-0562500-3 or Hotline 1506 or answering machine 24 hours or contact directly with officers everyday from 09.00 – 19.00 hrs. or website: www.sso.go.th
